I live in Barcelona and I have to admit where it not for Gaudy’s building’s, I don’t think the city would be that special. His buildings really are incredible and brighten the place up, compared to the rest of the apartment blocks that make up Example!

      Hi Tom,

You are a lucky guy 🙂 Really love the city. I agree, when it comes to Gaudìs buildings, and he is definitely the citys main attraction. After the pope visited LA Sagrada Familia, the amount of tourists exploded 🙂 And you are right about Eixample. There are other interesting modernista-buildings in the area, but most of the modern buildings are not that inerested 🙂

My First encounter with this city was through an India Movie named “Zindagi Na milegi Doobara” & that very instant I fell in love with the city However after going through this blog I realised there is so much else to know about this city & it’s History. My Favourite would be La Pedrera. Thanks for Sharing this with us.

Haven’t heard about the India Movie before. Thanks for sharing 🙂 Yes, Gaudí and Barcelona is location in many movies 🙂 And I agree with you. There is a lot more to Barcelona than Gaudí, but his buildings are really interesting. I think most people have La Pedrea as their favorite building, so you are definitely not alone 🙂
      Have a great day!

I did a self-guided walking tour of these places and it was truly special. It definitely give Barcelona some character! I myself am an architect and I really appreciated the place. I actually visited while I was studying abroad in DK :).

      Hi Meg,

How funny, you have been studying in Denmark 🙂 Yes! Gaudí absolutely gives Barcelona a lot af character. I know a lot of people, who have ben studying architecture in Barcelona because of the modernista architects 🙂 We also have som great architects in Denmark too, but their works are very, very simple compared to Gaudí 🙂

We loved visiting Barcelona. We never made it inside Sagrada Familia though, as it was a days wait to get it. If we had known how busy it would be, we would have booked tickets before hand! The only tickets they had left was for the day after we left. I’m happy to see you got some photos inside, now I feel like we have been there. Thank you for sharing.

Oh, what a shame you didn’t see it inside. Yes, you have to book tickets in advance to make sure, you will get inside – and also to see the tower.
Hope, you will visit Barcelona another time, so you get a chance to get inside.
I have been following the contruction work for 15 year now, and I allways visit Sagrada Familia, when I am in Barcelona. Love to follow the progression and I allways find new interesting details inside and outside the tempel 🙂

I would love to visit Barcelona. The buildings are just so fun to look at. Your post really aroused my curiosity in Gaudi. I love how he has used many colours and amusing shapes in his buildings. Kind of sets a happy atmosphere.

      Hi Agnes,

Thank you for your nice words. Yes, I agree with you. Gaudí’s buildings are playful and funny. No wonder both adults and children love them 🙂 I never get tired of looking at all the details, and it makes me happy 🙂

Such great descriptions of these great buildings and areas to visit. I didn’t realize Gaudi had created so many great places in Barcelona!
Your recommendation to pre-purchase tickets to avoid queuing in long lines will be most helpful when I next visit the area 🙂

      Hi Bruce,

Thanks for the nice words. I have actually not mentioned all Gaudís buildings in Barcelona. There are a few more like Finca Güell and Colónia Güell. Wish you a great trip to Barcelona next time you go there, and buying tickets online will definitely save you a lot of time.
